Where are they now? Jean Warrell (née Denton)

Jean Warrell (née Denton) returned to Bellan House for the first time in just over 80 years since she left!
Jean (93), who now lives in Exmouth, Devon, with her daughter Angela, began as a boarder at Bellan House when she was just 5 years old. Her parents lived in Pontfadog, and the distance was too far for every day travel, so Jean joined the other boarders at the school.
After leaving school Jean went to the Girls' High and having gained her qualifications spent a term at Moreton Hall teaching the girls music and sport.
During WW2 Jean volunteered for the WRENS and off she went to London at the age of 18. From here Jean volunteered to go to RAF Eastcote where she worked on the Bombe codebreaking machines that were used to decode the German Enigma messages.
In 1946 Jean left the WRENS and became a nurse at Guy's Hospital, London. Although Jean hated the sight of blood she loved people and preferred psychiatric nursing as she had more time to speak to patients.
The Matron at the hospital knew that Jean loved music and could play the organ and, as Guy's had a link with Southwark catherdral, Jean went along for music lessons from the chief organist there, John (Ernest Hubert) Warrell, who she later married.
Jean and John had 3 children together, Christopher, Nicholas and Angela. Having to give up work when she married, Jean took to teaching piano to children. She was still teaching in her 80's!
